John – Chapter 7

40 Some of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, This is of a truth the prophet. 41 Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, What, doth the Christ come out of Galilee? 42 Hath not the scripture said that the Christ cometh of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was? 43 So there arose a division in the multitude because of him. 44 And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.

“Lord, wherever I am on this journey of Lent, let me know that you are there with me.”

Today’s suggested penance: Pray in a special way to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

I love this reading — thank you so much for sharing! How important is it in Lent to remember that what we see and understand is not the whole picture. The Pharisees KNEW Jesus was from Galilee, but they didn’t know that he was born in Bethlehem, nor that he IS God and is from God. It’s so easy to get stuck on the obvious and forget that God works in mysterious ways.

As we come to the end of Lent, this passage is a reminder to me to remember God’s awesome and incomprehensible nature.
